As I reflect on both my personal life and my life as an artist -- I have noticed the importance of the healing properties of art. Whether it is the personal transformation I feel, or the emotional experience as the observer, these healing properties are the gifts art offer us.
Between exploring the great outdoors in and around Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes and simultaneously exploring an inner world with drawing, my childhood was spent comfortably. One of my favorite activities was to look through my family’s art books; it opened me up to a new and different emotional experiences. I came to realize sensitivity to emotional states that as a child I was unable to articulate. This was possibly my first understanding of the healing properties of art.
This sensitivity, paired with influences from Impressionistic paintings, the design and ornamentation of architecture, and the beauty in decorative arts led me to express my conscious experience in my art. Later, becoming aware of elusive, enigmatic qualities suggestive of the world of dreams and the subconscious adding music, which I also feel passionate about brought me to a new level of Creative consciousness.
